Given Randall’s numerous other worrying comics on the subject, I guess it’s justified to a degree. But it still seems to me on the level. Considering what seems to be your primary concern, I think the “this jerk” is okay firstly ’cause it’s presumably still in the head of the narrator, and secondly ’cause a ridiculous stereotype is necessary to present the lack of contrast between the narrator and him. I have to agree that the xkcd forumers are pretty fucked up. Some guy tried to do something similar with me. I hate people like that. Oh, dudes and ladies, this is priceless! On the plus side, knowing that most XKCD fans don’t understand satire makes it more fun to ridicule the strip. Second guy you mentioned–Edmund Dantes, eh?

We see Cueball declare his love for Megan in an oft-used setting, paying homage to similar events in classic literature, notably the “balcony scene” from William Shakespeare’s play Romeo and Juliet act 2, scene 2 , and a similar situation in Edmond Rostand ‘s Cyrano de Bergerac act 3, scenes In the former, Romeo, attempting to woo Juliet, stands beneath her balcony to profess his love for her.
In the latter, an inarticulate cadet, Christian, professes his love for Roxane by arranging to use the words of a fellow soldier, Cyrano, who secretly also loves Roxane. The movie ” Say Anything Parodying this iconic scene video , Cueball is holding up a boombox a self-contained semiportable stereo system, typically with cassette tape or CD player, and complete with integrated speakers that is playing music while Cueball declares his love for Megan.

Xkcd Creator Randall Munroe on the Joys of Overthinking Everything But he does not come off as a jerk, and in fact consults plenty of experts from those other fields and All prices were up to date at the time of publication.
Cueball is talking apparently to Megan. He confesses that he has a crush on her. Usually the next step in Western cultures, when someone likes someone else, is to ask the other person out in other cultures, such as Islamic or Indian cultures, it would be more appropriate to request that one’s parents contact the parents of the person one has a crush on. But Cueball takes a different route and in the comic he explains his thought process. Presumably he actually explains this to Megan.
He explains that he is afraid of rejection, and so instead of asking her out directly, promises to be her “best friend” and someone who is always “there for you”, in the hopes that this will eventually lead to Megan developing an attraction for him. This way, Cueball does not have to risk Megan saying ‘No’ to him, as she will be led to make the first move instead. Cueball is aware that this may not be an ideal situation for Megan, conceding that she may end up changing her definition of happiness to make her feel more comfortable in the relationship, while she is conscious of the fact that she doesn’t really love Cueball.
Cueball recognises that if Megan fell for him this way, she would probably have this fact at the back of her mind forever. And so, after painting this elaborate – but troubling – future, Cueball asks sound good? Megan, however, is not won over by Cueball’s plan, and tells him that she is going to date “this jerk ” instead she could have said any name here – to Cueball it will always sound like jerk!
Even though I once liked xkcd, the last few years I think it’s really gone down. “And she’s gonna feel like a jerk when she realizes it was actually Under Pressure. “Date” “Well, the kid’s definitely getting.
I agree with what you all saying there. When that comic first came out it prompted my then “just a friend” guy-friend to be straightforward and tell me he wanted to date me. I agree that the guy in the comic who manipulates the girl doesn’t really respect her or has a warped definition of respect something I’ve noticed a lot in Mormon culture Yes, it is good to become friends with someone before dating them, but the manipulation in the comic takes it many steps too far. Further, a guy can be nice without doing what the comic does.
There is plenty of in-between from nice to jerk. Sorry, I’ve thought about this particular comic a lot, but it has been a while. I think it’s important to differentiate between actual nice guys and nice guys TM who bemoan about being nice guys. The bemoaning kind are the ones people complain about so much and are the ones that finish last because who wants to spend time with someone who just complains rather than does something like ask someone out? I’ve known plenty of guys like the dude in the comic.
It just seems that friendship in these cases are built with an ulterior motive with the end being in a romantic relationship for the more interested party. I don’t know, I always think straight forward is the better way to go if you know what you want out of a relationship rather than waiting for something magical to happen.
SkeetSearch Fuck Date
It’s smart, funny, and often times educational. I’m a fan. The latest comic is a criticism of pickup. There ARE certainly valid criticisms of pickup, but Randall took a cheap and inaccurate shot at it. I’ve shrunken it below, but you can see the original here.
Girls who date jerks really don’t know what they’re missing out on. I have no idea why girls date jerks actually. They probably don’t think.
My head snapped up. Apparently, Randall Munroe, author of the popular webcomic xkcd, was going to sign copies of his new book in from 6—8 p. I was surprised; it was the first I had heard of the event. I would have expected an e-mail or at least more posters around campus, but I was just grateful that I heard of it in time. Over the past semester. My friend Tony and I wandered into around p. There must about been around people when I walked in and nearly by the time the talk finished.
I had expected just a book signing — not a full-on presentation. I scanned the front of the room for Randall Munroe and realized that I had no idea what he looked like. The diagram involved a number of categories and was rather incomprehensible since it was messy, but Munroe promised to put up a clean version of the xkcd blag sometime soon. The smiley question resulted in a rather amusing demonstration of how creepy the Google Chat smileys are when they turn slowly. Using the tablet he had attached to his Mac he uses a tablet as a mouse all the time, though he says he rarely draws on it.
The stick figure he drew for the crowd was noticeably different than the ones in the comics and drew a sideways smiley. Whenever he was drawing, Munroe stopped talking completely, telling us afterwards that he can never talk while drawing.
This is a page listing webcomics which feature Wikipedia. It is not intended to be a comprehensive list of all the ones that merely use the word “Wikipedia”. Instead, these are a compilation of those strips whose topic centrally relates to the encyclopedia and its perception in popular culture. Common themes in the comics reflect Criticism of Wikipedia —especially jabs at its vulnerability to vandalism and accuracy as a source.
Frequently people who edit or read Wikipedia are mocked as the butt of the joke, with the insinuation that Wikipedia enthusiasts lack social skills and are “nerds”, thus using the site is something one should be embarrassed about. The existence of this list creates an additional recursive topic for those authors that discuss Wikipedia for the mere purpose of seeing if their comic can be mentioned here.
I think this comic officially made every xkcd reading girl aww and feel sad at with women after a date or two doesn’t lead anywhere (though maybe I’m and those guys are often the kind of jerks that most women claim to be.

You can express disgust at your new CEO for campaigning against your gay coworkers’ right to get married, you can boycott a TV program if you don’t like it, and you can do a satirical impression of an Asian-American — all without getting arrested. Don’t like it? You don’t have to shut up, but you could understand it a bit better.
I love this idea, and may employ it in future gatherings.
